Marine Canvas Fabrication

Ocean Sails has broken into the international market for the top quality custom canvas and upholstery produced in our Water Street Shop. We have upholstered and custom covered some of the finest yachts in the world, and have built a reputation as the preferred choice for yacht owners, both sail and power.

Bimini tops, window enclosures, dodgers, mooring covers; sail covers, sailing awnings- what ever your needs are, we pride ourselves for the top quality craftsmanship produced by Ocean Sails.

The fabrics we use are based on durability, shade factor, water resistance, mildew and fade resistance and must be able to withstand the harsh elements. Sunbrella™ canvas, Stamoid vinyls and PVC fabrics are the preferred choices. These fabrics incorporate our criteria and are pleasing to the eye.

Sunbrella™ is a solution dyed acrylic fabric that locks in color keeping it vibrant under the elements and repels water. It is a breathable and translucent fabric both of which are desirable characteristics. Sunbrella™ offers an extensive collection of colors and styles whereas the Stamoid vinyls and PVCs are limited to color choices but are excellent fabrics and used in a wide variety of applications where a water proof fabric is desired.

We use 7/8"or 1"stainless steel tubing for our frame fabrication, rails and support structures for the marine trade. Our fittings are of the highest marine grade.

Custom Fabrication
What does Custom mean for you? Ocean Sails builds a product that is tailored to suite your personal style and your boat's requirements. The most important factor of any job is to think it out and visualize what it is we are trying to accomplish. The second stage is the fabricating process; measure; pattern; cut; sew; finish and the final stage is to fit the product to the boat.

"Production line" canvas and upholstered products are available. However, these products are generally produced with inferior fabrics and hardware and are not built to last; cutting corners to sell a cheaper product.

Ocean Sails continually seeks to expand our knowledge on building a better product using the best available fabric and hardware. Being members of the Industrial Fabrics Association International allows us to maintain this knowledge and be on the cutting edge of technology.

At Ocean Sails we proudly stand behind our work and the products we use.

Ocean Sails fabricated all the canvas work for the London registered 200' schooner Adix. She was outfitted with her new canvas in time for the prestigious Americas Cup Jubilee. This led to the newly built 165' schooner BorkumRiff IV, based in Antibes France, to call upon Ocean Sails to fabricate all of her awnings.

As members of the Industrial Fabrics Association International since 1999, Ocean Sails is part of a global organization with an honor code that states in part: "We pledge to treat all stakeholders with dignity and respect, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, disability or national origin... We advocate conditions of employment that safeguard the rights and welfare of all employees of our companies."
